General Information

General Information about Meetings

The Society meets regularly during the year for informal discussion of matters of professional interest. Free expression of views is encouraged.

A written paper is generally available beforehand from the Institute office or, to members, by post. The Chair is taken by a member of the Society well-versed in the subject under discussion. The author usually opens with a few explanatory remarks, after which the discussion is opened to all. There is no need to register for events in advance (unless specifically stated).

Meetings are held at Staple Inn Hall at 5.30pm with tea and cakes. The paper starts at 6pm and is followed by a buffet supper at a nearby tavern.

In order to encourage participation from younger members of the Society, a bottle of champagne is awarded for the best contribution to the discussion from a younger member.

Distribution of papers

Please note that distribution of papers is handled by the Institute on behalf of SIAS, so please contact them in the first instance, if there is a problem or you are seeking a printed copy of the paper. Please note that a downloadable copies of our papers are usually first available here on our website.

Please note that since the Committee decided to send out hard copies of SIAS papers in the post again there have been no papers published in time to be sent out beforehand. Members who wish to receive published SIAS papers can register this by logging on to the Institute's website and ticking the appropriate box (login ==> go to "Despatch Preferences" under Your Preferences ==> tick the box for "SIAS Sessional Papers - indicates hard-copy required (SIAS members only) - also available from SIAS website")
