HOW SAFE IS SAFE ENOUGH? - AN INTRODUCTION TO RISK MANAGEMENT

12 June 2001
Darlington, Angela; Grout, Simon; Whitworth, John

Synopsis

Public awareness of the risks run in everyday life, from problems with pension provision through to foot and mouth disease, has increased rapidly over the last decade. At the same time, regulators, shareholders and other stakeholders have increasingly required companies to demonstrate that they understand and manage their exposure to risks. This paper provides an introduction to the risk management industry and provides some ideas of where actuaries may be able contribute.
